I think a lot of people are surprised by the mountains we have here in Scotland. In many ways the conditions in the Cairngorms can be as harsh as anywhere else in the world.

I’ve just started my first re-read of The Living Mountain; the psychology and experience of mountainscapes is so fascinating, right? As Nan Shepherd would say, it’s about going into the mountains, not ascending them or conquering them.
