Maybe the hills are even more tantalising now they are closer? Perhaps you could access some of the nearer ones by bike? Not necessarily the biggies, but less visited landscapes.
I travel and walk around Scotland enough for work. For recreation I am generally content these days not to use a motor but to walk from my back door. Mind you, I am lucky to have a choice of fields, rivers, woods, hills and a Munro accessible in a day.
Thanks Felicity and I do access hills by bike frequently – it's one of my favourite things! Lack of local hill time in Angus/Fife/Perthshire certainly isn't the problem here. But I don't think winter mountaineering by bike is really feasible. I can cycle to Glen Clova in a day (my nearest big mountains) but I don't fancy doing so with a big winter backpacking pack!
